Ector County Appraisal District Tax Parcels

Ector County Appraisal District (Ector CAD) attempts to: 1) identify all real and personal property, and 2) then value each parcel. Their primary mission is to divide the property taxes paid to entities in the county as accurately and equitable as possible. Ector County Appraisal District had 241,364 tax parcels in 2021 and 12 appraisers to value them and conduct tax protest hearings. That works out to 20,114 tax parcels per appraiser.

Ector County Appraisal District has a lean level of staffing. We estimate about 25% of appraisal district appraisers work on valuation while the balance work on measuring new property and other inspections. We further assume the appraisers have 3 months or 66 days to complete valuations. Based on these assumptions, an appraiser at Ector County Appraisal District completes 1,219 valuations per day during the valuation period. The high pace of valuation per day is illustrative of the difficulty of accurately and uniformly valuing all 241,364 properties in Ector County.
